American Idol Update

Last night when the contenders for American Idol sung Neil Diamond's song during the first round, Paula Abdul sound a little bit out of context and making some bizarre comments. She made her comments on Jason's first song as well as the "second song" when in fact they haven't been to the second round yet. Hmmm...zarre...

I am shocked Jason is still holding on. All the men contestants were safe and the two girls were at the bottom 2. I was guessing that Syesha will be voted out but instead it was Brooke. Well you can't really predict who will go since there are millions of voters.

Where in the World

is Matt Lauer? This is the new segment of the Today show that I am starting to like. It started on the 28th. It is very informational as well as pleasing to learn new things about certain places all over the world. Kudos to NBC for having this kind of show that will open the eyes of other nations that there is a place and beautiful culture that exists. I hope they will show more countries or places that haven't been given a chance to show to the world its uniqueness and the many things it can offer.

Wrestling with Barney

I usually put her stuffed toys on the end table so she will be encouraged to stand and cruise on the edges of the table. So this is what she is doing most of the time. Take all the toys down and then step on it or sometimes hug it and pin it down.

Wow for 4 days now I was able to see real sunlight. So I guess there is still hope for our weather here. I opened the telly and the forecast for the week is very promising. I hope I can go out more often now without wearing too bulky clothes. I need more sunshine as well as our DD so weather such as what we have right now is very welcome.

Au Naturelle Cosmetics

Being a woman we tend to use a lot of beauty enhancing products. There are lots of cosmetic brands in the market and we are hopping from one brand to another to get something that will suit as. I am a simple person and I don't go out on regular days with make up. I am just very simple. I am afraid to use cosmetics that is why if I buy one I am very cautious. I love using Organic Skincare especially those that are not tested on animals but humans. I have been looking for such products and then I found Ecco Bella Cosmetics. I can say they are au naturelle because their cosmetics are organic and guaranteed cruelty-free products. Using their beauty products will leave you conscience-free knowing that it will not cause blemishes on your beauty and it is environmentally friendly.

What To Do: Beauty Products Gone Bad

I love reading GoodHousekeeping magazine. It gives a lot of information on almost everything. Simple tips and tricks as well as giving insightful infos about new products in the market. They also have recipes that I like to try out once in a while.

I know all ladies uses cosmetics or any beauty products and some of us collects it too, right? And if you notice you have a bunch in your bathroom from years and years back, you might need to toss those that are gone bad. If you retain it in your bathroom it will only collect dusts as well as occupy space. Not only that you may be using it when it is already expired and bad to use.

So just make sure to check it's expiration date and if it's over you need to toss it away. Those that don't have expiration, below are the suggested toss-it-time according to GH mag:

* Skin care - read expiration date and those that don't have, if it is in pump bottles it can go after a year and others after 6 months in use.

* Nail Polish - 1 to 2 years

* Lipstick and gloss is 1 year and lipliner up to 2 years.

* Liquid eyeliners 3 months; cream eyeshadows 6 months; pencil eyeliners and powder eyeshadows 2 years.

* Mascara 3 months.

* Face Make-ups, 6 months for liquids and 2 years for powders.

Bridal Lingerie

June is coming and it is known to be the wedding month. If you know of somebody who will get married this wedding month, you can give her bridal lingerie on her shower party. I am very sure that she will be very glad that you give her one. I didn't have a shower party before we got married because the planning was very quick. But if ever I had one I would hope that one of my guests will give me a gift such as this picture below :-)

Dancing with the Stars Update

The Dancing with the Stars are down to 6 celebrity contenders and last night they started dancing two dances. Christian dela Fuente pulled a muscle while they were dancing the 2nd dance, Latin dance. I hope he is okay and him and her partner Cheryl Burke will stay on. If I were to choose who am I going to vote out it be Shannon. Though she made a come back but still she is the weakest among them. When she's dancing her lower body, hip area, still not comfortable enough in dancing. She seem stiff and awkward. Tonight during the result Def Lepard will be singing and I can't wait.

CONTEST here.

Popcorn Machines

My husband love to watch movies all the time. It's either we go to the cinema or just staying at home and rent out DVDs. While watching of course some staples should not be missed out. We love to eat popcorn as well as chips and dip. I was telling him one day that we must check out for popcorn machines so we can get one. I love to make home made gourmet popcorn. It will be nice too if we invite friends with kids and watch a movie together and then had a ready snacks for everyone to partake. I think I will start looking online and surprise hubby with it.

Shower Chairs

I remember when I was giving birth in the hospital in labor me and hubby were inside the bathroom sitting in shower chairs. I was thinking of taking a shower. It was really comfortable and I was glad that it is available because it really aids in taking a shower. DME - Disposable Medical Express is selling different type of shower chairs. If you need one, you can check them out at disposablemedicalexpress.com.

Adult Immunization

To have a happy life one must also be healthy and fit. To keep away from any sickness our immune system must be strong to combat diseases. I read an article at GoodHousekeeping magazine that a lot of adults are not up to on their shots. It is best to ask your respective doctors to update what vaccine you missed.

I copied this below from the mag what adults should need and ask from their docs:

For chickenpox - you need to get this if you were born after 1979 and you haven't immunized or don't have the disease yet.

For tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (tdap) - you need this if you are under 65 who did not get a booster for the last 10 years.

For measles-mumps-rubella (mmr) - you need this if you are born after 1956 and haven't been vaccinated.

For pneumonia - you need this if you are 65 and older or those with chronic disease.

For shingles - you need this if you are 60 and over.

When fall comes it will be time for the flu shots again. Everyone is encourage to get flu shots as well.

Handy Postage Tape

I am very thankful that most of the trivial things that I need to do everyday is being expedited because of the availability of resources that I can say very handy, just like the postage tape, I am sending some cards, letters, and bills, with the postage tape available everything is just easy and fast. These handy labels greatly works for an on the go Mom like me. I am stocking more of it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. So if you need some of these labels just check out labelvalue.com.

LBC in our Area

I mentioned before that there is already an LBC service here in our area. When we were in GA I wished that there is an LBC there because we are sending balikbayan boxes to the Philippines. When we moved here, there is one service but it is far from where we live. I am glad that in March another branch was being opened. I called them a while ago because I have balikbayan box to send off. I was surprised that they are still on the promo period until the end of this month. Their promo charge for $35 for the biggest balikbayan box. Not bad. I need to call them very, very soon for pick up schedule.

Budget Software

Budgeting is always an issue in the household and in businesses. I am telling you it is not an easy task. There are so many things to consider. Most of all the consideration of your resources. In businesses budgeting is a pain if you have a lot to consider. That is why it is advisable to get a budget software that will do the big task. The software should have all the elements like accuracy, tracking, managing and planning, advanced calculations and other features. So if you need one you can check out prophix.com.

Teleserye

One of the Filipino teleserye, soap opera, that I am following everyday is Palos. It ended yesterday. I hope they will have another show soon that I will watch. TFC have another offering soon but it is horror and I don't like watching it. I am looking forward for another drama shows.

I am waiting for another teleserye that I believe Judy Ann Santos and Derek Ramsey will star. I am a fan of Juday because she is very wholesome and so down to earth. Becoming a big star did not make her big headed that is why she is very blessed.

Franchise Gator

If you are thinking of opening up a business you can also look at getting a franchise. There are already existing businesses in all types of industries that offers franchise. As a matter of fact Franchise Gator can help you in determining what kind of business you want to franchise. They have all the industries listed and they can match a business that fits for you. They are reliable and will help you succeed in your endeavors.

Caregiver

Sharon Cuneta, the Philippine Megastar, is shooting a movie Caregiver. She even shoots scenes in one of London's nursing home to make the movie more authentic. This movie will show how the OFW's working abroad as caregivers. Being away from your love ones, instead of caring for them you are caring someone else because you need to support your family. I can relate to this movie because I have been a caregiver here in the US. It is a worthwhile experience even if it is very hard. I am looking forward for this movie. I hope I will be able to get a copy when it will be in a DVD.

Treadmill

Treadmill is an exercise equipment that will do a lot of good to those who wants to get fit and healthy. This is a good way to do a cardio exercise. Increase your endurance and burn fats thereby increasing your body metabolism and sweating out excess body fats. I have been wanting to have one at home so we will not go to our apartment's gym or health club. My hubby's aunt before wanted to hand one down to us but we just don't have the means to get it. There are lots of treadmills in the market, but if we get one, I may get the same treadmill in the picture.

Rice Shortage

I heard on the local news here in our place about rice shortage. It was said that it is a world concern. In California where there are lots of Filipinos also feel the effect of the rice problems. One Costco store is limiting customer in purchasing rice. Watching the Today show this morning, Kathy Lee and Hoda, the anchors, were talking about food crisis as well. I hope that this will not become a world problem because it will be very scary. Although we should not do any panic buying but we just have to be prepared.

Dieting

After giving birth a lot of women experience skin breakout, gaining weight and losses energy. Postpartum effects sometimes becomes very psychological. Some even go on dieting right away if they are not breastfeeding. I learned that there are diet pills like Orovo that not only loses weight but also good in treating acne or skin breakouts and also elevating your body's energy. This has the superfoods that doctors are recommending and is rich with vitamins and minerals. I may have to try it after I have a check with my OB.

Selecting an Insurance

Insurance companies in the countries mushroomed up and you cannot decide which one is reliable and give you the best services. Almost everyday we can receive insurance fliers either term life insurance, car insurance, health or dental insurance and any other types of insurance. But those goes to the trash because we don't know what kind of company they have. To select an insurance make sure that the company has a good track record and is known to provide good service. Make sure also to check out with the BBB and I believe there is a way you can find if that insurance is good or bad online.

A Little Investing on the Sides

My Mom sent me a message through text to call her and it says important. If I read that kind of message I easily get nervous. But when I called her she said that she already did what I asked her the other day. I got relieved that it is not something I should get nervous about.

What it was is that I asked my Mom to go to my cooperative bank back in our town where I am a member. I thought my membership was already cut off because it's been years that I did not do anything about it. I was encouraged by a friend who also have a coop bank membership and her account is active and doing good. So I called the bank and asked my friend if I can activate it and maybe make a little investment. She said I can and I am still earning dividend through the years. That is very cool. So my Mom went there and got me another pass book. I am planning to put in a little amount and just save it there so when we go home we will have something to look forward to.

Save, Save and Save

Having a kid definitely change your perception in life. Although you have the drive in your life to have a bright future but with an addition in the family that drive is double. Your driving force will be your children that you are responsible for in giving them a good future. When I stopped working I was thinking if would we be able to put money in our savings accounts. Our household expenses was doubled because of having a child. If my husband is the only one who will bring home the bacon can we afford to save as well as spend? But in God's grace we're able to adjust to live with what we have and save some. So I guess if we just manage our finances well then we can still get through with just one income. And rule of thumb in getting to a more secure financial life is to save, save and save.

Wesley Snipe's Tax Case

I read on Yahoo news that the Blade star Wesley Snipes was sentenced for 3 years in prison. This is the verdict by the judged regarding his tax case. I heard about this tax evasion case of him way back. Accordingly this is a success on the prosecutors in giving him the maximum penalty. This will also set to deter high profile personalities or whoever will not pay and settle their taxes with the IRS.

In the Philippines I have heard a lot of news that businessmen are evading taxes. In my opinion, the government should not be lenient to them. They should make them pay in full not just the ordinary and small businesses.

Sports: Golf

Golf is one of the sports that I really wanted to learn. Hubby was playing it before and he is thinking of playing it again. I have been looking of golf gears and boy it is very expensive. Hopefully we can try it together. It will be a fun family sports. We will include our little one too. Anywhere you go here in the US there are golf courses. In Missouri, you can find award winning golf courses. This can be found in Branson golf courses like the Thousands Hill. I may not be able to play there but I hope I will have the chance to learn the sport soon.

Show Come Back

I am so excited two of my favorite shows will be aired back tonight. I missed these shows when it was stopped because of writer's strike in Hollywood. Now that they are back in the prime time, I will have something to look forward to every Thursday night. These are the Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy.

When these shows first came out, me and hubby watched it together. Sometimes I forgot about the day and time and he will remind me to switch the channel. Even now that he's in Iraq he reminds me that our shows are coming back again. They have MWR - Moral Welfare and Recreation - there so they're able to watch news and shows there as well.

American Idol Update

Last night the 6 finalists of American Idol sung a broadway musicale songs. It is very tough call for all of them but most of them were able to pull it through. Brooke missed the entrance of her song and she stopped and start again which for me can hurt her votes tonight. Jason on the other hand chose a song that is not for his range. If I am to choose who will be voted out, my guess would be him. But we will see...

Dancing with the Stars Update

Did you watch Dancing with the Stars last night? The result last showed that Marlee Matlin was voted off. She is an inspiration because despite her being deaf she still a successful person. It is very difficult to dance without hearing the music but she's able to dance very gracefully. Even if the road to dance in the show has ended for her, but her courage to take the challenge for 6 weeks was really an accomplishment.

With the result was also the competition for the kids division. And the two pairs were also great. They have a good future as professional dancing. My bet was the first pair and they emerged as the winner too. I am looking forward to see more younger kids dancing in DWTS.

Everyday Cleaning

Having a child in the house doubled my time to allot in cleaning. Before I only do weekly thorough cleaning but now since I gave birth I make sure to dust almost everyday, vacuum and mop kitchen and bathroom. I am not really a total neat freak but I just want to make sure our DD will not catch germs. I also decided to go green with my cleaning supplies. I started by using a microfiber mops and rugs for our floors and counters. We do have a lot of cleaning liquids that I need to dispose of and replaced with green products soon. Just knowing all these hazardous chemicals we are inhaling in our household is enough for me to fear for our DD's development. I believe all mothers should look into it now and start the change.

Car Accessories

My husband will be coming home soon and he ask me all the time what my surprise will be for him. Of course I am not telling him my surprise. What I am planning is getting him some car accessories for his truck. I know he will love it. I am already browsing online for neat and cool items. I checked at wooddashexperts.comand found a lot of goodies for my plan in getting her truck pimped.

Hails, Hails and More Hails

I thought we will be done with snow in spring but just now it is snowing. I was thinking of going out but having this kind of weather, so unpredictable, I don't like to drive. I know I have been ranting about our weather here but it is really weird. I am not used to this but I need to adjust to it if we will be living here for good. Oh well, I just wish more sunshine soon.

Adjustable Beds

Another way of helping those who are suffering from back pains because of an uncomfortable beds is to get an adjustable beds. These beds will allow you to adjust the position of your bed according to your preference and position when sleeping. You can also adjust the softness or hardness of the mattress. This is really very cool and would greatly help you give a relaxing and good sleep every night.

Citizen Pinoy

To all my Filipino friends, do you watch Citizen Pinoy on TFC? It is really a good show and it gives a lot of immigration information. It is hosted by Gel Santos-Relos and Atty. Michael Garfinkel, the well-known immigration lawyer. I like watching the show and it gives you knowledge of what to do when faced with immigration problems. I saw a lot of guests having immigration problems and they were able to get through it through his help. It is really very important that we, as immigrant here in the US, knows immigration issues and not to be ignorant of its laws.

Magnifier

During night time when I go to bed I can't sleep right away. I wanted to read but I can't open our bedside light since our DD is sleeping beside me for now. When I turn it on she will be disturbed in her sleep. One time I tried using a small flashlight but it just made my eyes hurt the more. So I better get me a magnifier that I can use. I need to get it soon before I put too much strain to my eyes.

How Much a Sonographer Being Paid

A friend of mine asked me how much a sonography technician being paid. Being I don't have any idea, I check online and medical-career-training.com has an extensive information about it. Accordingly, sonography tech has a median income of $48,660 in 2002, with the average salary falling between $41,420 and $56,020 every year. This is not bad. And you have room to grow from having this training. You can also get an advanced study in Radiology and make it a full degree. The website also offers information about sonography schools all over the country if someone is interested.

Got My 10-Year Permanent Resident Card

I am so happy and relieved that at last I already got my 10-year permanent resident card. I am now temporarily finished with immigration paperworks until I will be able to apply for US citizenship. It took two months for me waiting for my 10-year green card from the date of my biometrics in Seattle. Although my 2 year conditional card has already expired in December 2007 but the USCIS send me a notice that it is extended until December 2008. But now that I have my actual card, it is already superseded. I can rest my mind on this immigration processing now.

Depression Treatment

It is a known fact that nowadays a lot of people are suffering from depression. Depression comes in many ways and it affects not only adults but cases also shows that children are suffering from depression as well. There are effects of depression that will turn them into drug abuse, alcoholism, seclusion and distress because they feel the isolation. Their life is crushed and others would even end up tragically. Once you see symptom of depression from any of your love ones, you need to act at once. Depression Treatment should be administered. You need to give your full support for your love one to get proper care and treatment.

Depression Treatment includes but is not limited to having them see a clinical psychologist that will assess the degree of their depression and what will be the proper treatment program for them. Some people are very adamant to seek medical help because of the stigma that accompanies with it. The bad impression to others if found out they are seeing psychologist or psychiatrist creates a feeling of shame. The family should intervene and give them discouragement as much as possible so they will not feel isolated. And seeing a professional should be pushed in order for them to get back to a normal life.

Hails in Spring

Actually this picture was taken on March 30 at the back of our apartment unit. It was very strange when it's already spring and hails are pouring. I was just amazed when only for a few minutes and the ground was already blanketed with ice pellets. My friend who used to live here in WA was telling it wasn't this snowy as before. How really strange the nature is. This is the secret of the weather that even the experts cannot explain.

Rice Crisis in the Philippines

I was watching Philippine news this afternoon and reports about people fighting with the line they are queuing just to get a low price of rice from NFA (National Food Authority). I am wondering why this is seem like panic buying among Filipinos. Is there really a shortage of rice in the Philippines? According to the government there is enough rice supply but why would the people act like there will be no rice tomorrow?

One thing I don't like is how they claim that Philippine economy is strong but prices of basic commodities are souring high. I was shocked how the sardines which to my memory was Php5.00 before now it's Php9.50. That is ridiculous. The dollar went down and the peso went up but still more and more people are not able to support their basic necessities. Another thing, the business owners or rice wholesalers or retailers are also taking advantage of the situation wherein they just think of profit. I think it's not only the government who will change as well as capitalist business people that only think of their own interest.

Great Day

Weather wise it was a great day today. The sun was bright and the wind is very tame. The temperature was on its mid 50's. Very lovely day indeed. I wasn't planning to drive but realized I need to buy diaper for our DD. I went to Costco which is only 3-5 min drive down the road from our complex. My little girl was able to only wear a thin jacket and she didn't get cold. We were inside the store and I felt lost. It was my second time going there. I didn't know where the diapers at. To make my stay there short and fast, I asked one of the associates. She told me where it is at. I only stick to what I should buy, only diaper. So I got out of the store with a big box of diaper that will probably last for a month.

My Personality

I snagged this from Juliana [Pinay WAHM].

Your Personality Is

Guardian (SJ)

You are sensible, down to earth, and goal oriented.

Bottom line, you are good at playing by the rules.

You tend to be dominant - and you are a natural leader.

You are interested in rules and order. Morals are important to you.

A hard worker, you give your all at whatever you do.

You're very serious, and people often tell you to lighten up.

In love, you tend to take things carefully and slowly.

At work, you are suited to almost any career - but you excel in leadership positions.

With others, you tend to be polite and formal.

As far as looks go, you are traditionally attractive. You take good care of yourself.

On weekends, you tend to like to do organized activities. In fact, you often organize them!

Pharmacy Technician Training

A friend of mine is asking me where she can find school she can go for a pharmacy technician training. I told her about medical-career-training.com. She can check it out because they have great medical career trainings. Although she wants to become a pharmacy tech but she can also check out some other medical courses they are offering. I can say that pharmacy technician salary is quiet good and job market is showing that there is an increase hiring in the years to come.

Not Cool

It is really not cool if you live in the first floor of an apartment building because you will hear the feet stumping, door banging or whatever noise the 2nd level tenant has. Now that I have a baby I don't usually sleep deep at night. Just a slight noise can wake me up. When I am in bed I still watch tv until 2am and can you believe I can still hear the noise of our upstairs neighbor. They have a toddler and I can hear the voice of the little one somewhat playing and then I can hear somebody's vacuuming. Well I can't really do nothing about but suck it up since we opt to live in the first floor :-)

X-Ray Technician Training

Having a pre-medical degree as a background is pushing me to pursue another course that is still in medical field. Back in Georgia I started taking classes that I can be credited in any medical courses that I wanted to take. Now that we moved I am thinking of going back to school and thinking instead of taking up Nursing I will enroll to become an x-ray technician. I know of somebody who just finished training as an xray technician and he said that he love his job and it pays real good. I am really sold out to this idea and now I can say that I am more leaning towards taking up Radiologic Technology and become an x ray technician.

Electronic Bill Pay

Many people are still afraid of paying bills online because of identity theft. Me and my husband pays all our bills online. We have the payment arranged direct from our bank. It is really very convenient. We just monitor it if it is properly taken out on the right date and the right amount. The only thing that we pay using our check is our rent. I was also skeptical before of paying bills online.

This morning I was watching the Today Show and it was said that it is best to set up your bill payments electronically because aside from its convenience and paperless, the risk of information stealing is less. Accordingly, there are lots of cases of mail stealing right in our own backyard. If you send out your bills through the courier, you will include in your check some of your information which is very prone for stealing. The lesson here is to be very vigilant and careful when writing your information. Make the habit of shredding paperworks that contain your information. Even if it is only you name, you have to shred it.

Becoming a Chef

Before I got married I am not really into cooking. I know how to cook but not only basic cooking. Then when I entered married life, gears shifted and I got interested in the kitchen and do some cooking experiment. As a matter of fact I love to watch Food Network. My husband was asking me then if I want to learn how to cook and if I am interested in culinary school. Of course I said yes. So I searched for culinary schools around our area. I found a couple which is actually in the school where I went to before. I wanted to go to an exclusive chef school but I don't think I can afford it. But hopefully I will be able to find one through culinary school finder and then I can enroll short culinary training.

Pregnant Man

I was watching Oprah this afternoon and her guest was the "pregnant man" Thomas from Bend, Oregon. He is a transgender man but did not have his internal reproductive organs removed. Since his wife cannot bear a child anymore and they want to have children he is the one who got pregnant. They also told that this is his second pregnancy. Last year he got pregnant but it was an ectopic pregnancy. He had surgery because of it.

I must say that at this point in time there will be a lot of abhorrent remarks about his situation. And that more people in the world is not yet ready to embrace such idea. But for me, it's their choice and they have the absolute right to fulfill the happiness for their family. I can see that they are both capable parents and most of all their family supports them. Hope he will have a safe pregnancy and delivery.

Credit Network

While I was in the Philippines I did not have any credit cards whatsoever. Only people who are wealthy then can afford to own one. Then I heard now that credit card is very popular there and even a mere employee with fair income has one. When I got here in the US hubby educate me about credit cards. And due to my curiosity I researched on it and I found a lot of information. The most important thing that hubby had told me is to take good care of your credit. It will be the basis in almost everything that concerns financial aspect of an American life.

I learned now that before you apply for credit cards you need to shop and compare. There are lots of credit card features you need to look before applying. It is best to look for a credit network wherein they have reviews on credit cards based on the features such as APR or low interest rates, balance transfers, cash back, rewards card, business and pre-paid credit cards. You can research in there first and then compare the different credit card company's offers and then apply for the best one that suits for you. It is also very important to read the fine prints of the credit card you applied for to avoid confusions later on.

NY Pet Friendliest

I heard this news yesterday that New York is named as the Pet Friendliest city in the US. Accordingly, there are lot of establishments that also caters man's pets. From hotels, restaurants, shops and stores. It is a good thing to know that you can bring your pet to just about anywhere in the city. I am not sure if most establishment here in my area do the same. I only see a pet inside a shop if it's a blinds guide. I don't own a pet but maybe one day we decide to get one.

American Idol Update

Wednesday is the dreaded day for the American Idol contestants. Somebody's got to go home. The bottom three were named and they are: RamieleMalubay, Kristy Lee Cook, and Brooke White. The one voted out is Ramiele. I have the hunch that her road for AI will end tonight.

Spring is Back!

Hope for a nice weather is springing back here. After a whole week of whacky weather, snow, hails in spring, the forecast shows that there will be a week long of dryness in the Northwest. Yesterday we were able to go out and took a short walk around the complex after paying our rent. Although it is still a bit nippy but you can still feel the sun's heat. Today is the same thing. I have plans to go out and take a walk of course with DD in her stroller. It is good to feel fresh air and sunlight is good to have Vitamin D.
