Tuesday Travels #7 [Washington DC]

Back in October 2007 we had a short visit at the US Capital, Washington DC. We were on our way to New Jersey that time to attend hubby's high school reunion. While in DC, I also had my Philippine passport renewed at the Philippine Embassy. Since we only stayed in DC for one day and one night, we were not able to explore the city too much. We only visited few of the historic landmarks of the city.

My impression is that since it is the US Capital city, you can mostly find stately and government buildings that are huge, and they housed museums and mansions that attracts millions of tourists every year.

Below are some of the pictures that I took using our video cam's still photo feature[sorry for the poor quality of pics]. These are among the most visited landmarks in Washington DC, located at the National Mall. We walked around the National Mall area from the Washington Monument to Lincoln Memorial passing along the Reflecting Pool. It was a long walk but worth the experience.

Washington Monument - 555 feet 5-1/8th inches tall

Lincoln Memorial - where you can find the huge statue [in picture below] of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the US.

US National World War II Memorial - it has 56 pillars and a pair of arches surrounding the plaza and fountain.[source: wikipedia]

One pillar I saw the Philippines, and of course I have to take a picture with it as the background.

I wish to visit there again one day with our kids. I want them to learn of the place and relive history through the museums and memorials.
