Carpool

Thanks for the article from Glenda Hanson.

My children are in private school, and it’s wonderful. They enjoy the school, have great friends, and are learning a ton. They’re far ahead of some of their friends in other schools, and I know it’s the right decision for our family. That being sad, there is one pretty major downside of private school—we don’t have any bus service. This means I have to drive my children to school every day and their father picks them up. It gets to be kind of a drag, because I have to leave my house forty-five minutes early to sit in their parking lot for twenty minutes in the carpool line! WE use the time to talk and catch up, which is nice, but there are definitely days where I have a lot of other things I need to be doing with that time! My husband, who is brilliant, came up with a great solution for what to do with that time I spend waiting. He did a Google search for wireless internet franklin and discovered that we have Clear internet available here! I can now catch up on all of my emails while I’m also catching up with my kids. It’s a win-win!

Tuesday Travels #9 [Mt. Rainier, WA]

Mt. Rainier is the tallest mountain of volcanic origin here in the state of Washington. It is located southeastern portion of Seattle and Tacoma areas and about 54 miles from Seattle. The summit elevation is 14,411 ft. It has large amount of glaciers with some subsidiary peaks. We've been there twice but did not really go to the peak, only to the parks where tourist are allowed, although if you want to the backpacking thing they have arranged guided tours as well.

We went there on fall 2010. We did not walk the trail farther because it was very cold and windy. We forgot to bring the baby carrier since it was an impromptu trip. I would love to go back there on a spring time and see the gardens and the alpine gardens in bloom.

This seemed like an amphitheater when you are up there in the mountain. It is also the start of this nice trail. Hubby took this pictures using his blackberry phone, thus the photo did not really give the place too much justice.

Hair and Scalp Treatment

I am having problem with dry scalp. I was using dandruff treatment shampoo and tried different varieties but seemed like the dryness is very stubborn. It is very embarrassing, especially when I wear dark clothes because the flakes can be seen on my clothes. That's how worst it is. It frustrates me to know and I am always uncomfortable.

I saw this seaweed shampoo and conditioner, which is an organic product that helps moisturize the hair and scalp. I want to try this out and see if this can alleviate my dry scalp. I read its testimonials from different users and they said it does help with dryness and itchiness. This is what I am feeling too with my scalp and also with my skin now that it is winter.

This seaweed bath and co also have other products like powder baths, body creams and others. Those that have already used it said it is great for relaxation and alleviating the itchiness due to flaky and dry skin. So this may be a good product to use for someone like me who is suffering winter rash. I will check this out and try for me and my family. Have you tried it yourself? If ever, can you share your experience to me? Thanks!

Tuesday Travels #8 [Cont'd: Washington DC]

My Tuesday Travel entry for this week is a continuation of my post last Tuesday. The featured place is Washington DC. As I've said in my last post, this travel happened back in 2009. As we were driving around, I saw the Capitol building and we don't have enough time to park and tour inside near it and inside. Maybe on our next trip to DC, I will make it sure we can have an up close and personal visit of the well-known US Capitol building.

We then parked in one of the paid parking around the federal district. It was inside a very big building with shops and parking grounds. When we came out of that particular building, it was 4 blocks going to the White House. Some of the streets surrounding the White House was closed. The tourists and other visitors can only view this part of the White House at that time. It was a long walk from where we parked. We walked almost the whole day and only stopped to eat.

Organize in Clipix Way

I have lots of things that I put in my wish list and usually I bookmark. I know I can organize all the bookmarked sites that I have but I am just so lazy to do it now that it is already long. Good thing clipix came. Now I can already organize everything without a hassle. Among the stuff I have in my wish list are the places that I love our family to visit one day. I and my husband love to travel, and we have long list of places we want to bring our kids to. I can now organize the sites of the places at my clipix clipboard. I have a picture of one of my clipboard below:

Clipix is very easy to navigate. In order for you to clip what interests you online, just drag the clip button to your bookmarks bar and every time you find something you like, click it and a clip window will appear on the side. You just follow the instruction and will see it in your clipboard. A demo video below can walk you through and give you more information about clipix.

You can also add an iPhone App to bring your clipboard wherever you go. You can create as many clipboards as possible, label it to whatever you like, and arrange it how you like it to be. It is very fun and addicting I should say. Try it now and connect to other clippers around the world.

366 Blog Photo Challenge #40 [Sabaw]

Entry #40 Project 366 Blog Photo Challenge

In a cold and rainy day, a steaming hot soup is really good for my tummy. I missed my Mom's cooking but since she is not here I try my best to at least copy what she cooked before. One thing I like is her nilaga of any kind of meat, may it be pork, beef, or chicken. Last week I cooked pork nilaga. It was very apt for our cold weather here. Our little girls love their rice with soup, and the more they love sipping the tasty soup [as in mohigop jud].

A friend of mine already gave me an invitation to have dinner at their place on Tuesday. She said she will cook beef nilaga :-) Now, there goes my dieting. If you have this kind of viand, you can eat a lot of rice too. Well, that's for me, teehee!

Tuesday Travels #7 [Washington DC]

Back in October 2007 we had a short visit at the US Capital, Washington DC. We were on our way to New Jersey that time to attend hubby's high school reunion. While in DC, I also had my Philippine passport renewed at the Philippine Embassy. Since we only stayed in DC for one day and one night, we were not able to explore the city too much. We only visited few of the historic landmarks of the city.

My impression is that since it is the US Capital city, you can mostly find stately and government buildings that are huge, and they housed museums and mansions that attracts millions of tourists every year.

Below are some of the pictures that I took using our video cam's still photo feature[sorry for the poor quality of pics]. These are among the most visited landmarks in Washington DC, located at the National Mall. We walked around the National Mall area from the Washington Monument to Lincoln Memorial passing along the Reflecting Pool. It was a long walk but worth the experience.

Washington Monument - 555 feet 5-1/8th inches tall

Lincoln Memorial - where you can find the huge statue [in picture below] of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the US.

US National World War II Memorial - it has 56 pillars and a pair of arches surrounding the plaza and fountain.[source: wikipedia]

One pillar I saw the Philippines, and of course I have to take a picture with it as the background.

I wish to visit there again one day with our kids. I want them to learn of the place and relive history through the museums and memorials.

366 Blog Photo Challenge #35 [Buttered Garlic Shrimp]

When I am busy and wanted to cook something simple for lunch or dinner, seafood is the easiest and fastest menu to cook. I usually buy shrimp, tilapia fillet, or salmon. Most often if I cook shrimp, I will soak it in sprite overnight or couple of hours, but if in a hurry I just cook as it is. I like buttered garlic shrimp. I only have 3 ingredients as pictured above to use. I pat dry the shrimp before cooking with paper towel coz I don't want too much water in it. I used the already chopped garlic so I really did not use a knife cooking this that makes it more fast and easy cooking. The result is yummy and our girls loved it a lot.

Safety Precaution

Nowadays we need to be more cautious because we don't know what could happen. Anywhere you go there is a threat of danger to yourself and to the kids. Recently I heard on the news about a 7-year-old girl was attempted to be abducted by a person inside a Walmart store. Good thing the girl had the presence of mind and shouted and kicked the attacker hard that prompted the attacker to let her go. I praised that little girl for being so smart and did the right thing. This is what we should tell our kids to do if in the event strangers come up to them.

Another safety precaution I always practice is driving safely and be a defensive driver. I don't drive over the speed limit if ever I go ever it is only a mile over but not more. If I am on the right lane to where I should exit, I will not change lane anymore so I will avoid speeding and passing. We can't really tell how accidents happen. You are very cautious but still there are other drivers that don't care and some even drive even if they are under the influence.

If you have a loved one and they love to drive motorcycle, one nice gift I can think of to make them safe while on the road is giving them them helmet. I've seen helmets, hard hats to be on sale online and it will surely be a nice and thoughtful gift for the love of your life. Helmet is very important if you are driving a motorcycle or bicycle. This summer I am planning of getting a bicycle and of course I also need a helmet with it. Our little girl already have her bicycle gear and I can't wait to ride the back around the neighborhood with our safety gears of course.

366 Blog Photo Challenge Entry #33 [Braid]

Our DD1's hair was braided by my friend on Sunday. It was the first time her hair was braided and she liked it very much. My husband told me many times before to bring her to the salon to have her hair braided by professional because I don't know how to do it. But it is very expensive, so I told him I'll wait until she is a little bigger and I will also try to learn it by myself. Until now I still don't know to braid like this. I know the very basic one but not this style. I took the picture with my phone because I sent it to hubby.

Switch Plate Accent

I like browsing online for decorating ideas now that we have a place of our own. Aside from decorating our own bedroom after I finished my school work, I also have a project in our girls room. One thing that can add to the room decor of kids and in any other room is replacing a traditional white switch place with a colorful one.

Our oldest daughter wants purple and pink for her room. I saw this kids switchplate covers that will look good in her room. The design is very nice and the color would match perfectly. I showed it to her and she said she likes it a lot.

A small accent with colorful design would give a bare wall a pop of color. It will be a nice addition to her bedroom wall for sure once we painted it. I can't wait to start decorating the girls room.

Tuesday Travel #6 [Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in WA]

Another place to check out here in our place is the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. This is a nice natural park with a seaside and there is also a zoo inside. You can find different wild animals in there as well as marine mammals. We love going there during Christmas season because they will have the Zoo Lights open. They decorate the zoo with different light forms. It is very stunning to look at, and the family surely will enjoy.

Below is one of the structures inside the park. You can call it a gazebo with different species of roses and other flowers. This will be lovely during spring time when the flowers are in bloom.

Can't wait to visit there this summer. I am sure our girls will love to see the zoo and aquarium as well as playing at the park.

Super Chika Sunday

I know it's Super Bowl Sunday but didn't have a chance to watch the most awaited game of the year. After church, a friend invited us for lunch. The food was great and we just had a great time chatting, singing, and eating. A good friend who knows how to braid hair, braided the little girls hair while we were chatting.

After lunch we had snacks and we were still chatting until dinner time came. We had dinner at their place and if it is not for the kids school tomorrow, we may be still be in their place until now. I joked at them that we had a super chika instead of watching the super bowl. I think if we just had so much catching up that is why we talked nonstop. The host, our friend, will be going for deployment for many months so we just wanna spend the time with her before she leave.

Until now my tummy is still full with the food that we ate. I fell like going to sleep for fullness. I don't wanna lay down yet since I have so many things to do and have to do some school work too. The kids will be going to bed in a few then I will have the time to myself and finish all the tasks I have online. All I can say, I had a great Sunday and also Congratulations to NY Giants for bagging the Super Bowl XLVI Lombardi trophy!

366 Blog Photo Challenge #27 [Mini-Burger]

When Dhemz posted her slider burger it was so good to look at I can almost taste :-) So, I decided to make the same. Good thing I had all the ingredients including the sweet Hawaiian rolls. When I'm cooking I don't exactly follow the measurements of the ingredients. I only eyeball it. I mix different spices with the ground beef and did the process. I put it in the oven under 375 degree temperature for 45 minutes.

The funny thing was, when timer beeped when it was done, I opened the oven door and took the tray out. I jumped off my feet because the fire alarm went off. We have ADT system and the voice over was so loud saying "fire, fire". [Miulbo akong kaspa!] What caused the fire alarm to go off was the smoke from the burnt sauce on the sides. Apparently the fire detector caught it, thus it went off. Good thing when I fanned-off the detector the annoying sound died off.

Anyways, the startling experience was nothing because the verdict from the kiddos and the husband, was "it really taste good, Mommy."

Control Your PC with Lenovo MultiMedia Remote with Keyboard

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Lenovo. All opinions are 100% mine.

Lenovo -

I am about to finish my Medical Transcription certificate program and planning to have a job at home soon. I have been looking for a wireless keyboard to use with my computer. How timely it is to know that the answer to my problem is the Lenovo Enhanced Multimedia Remote with keyboard! Lenovo made an upgrade on this product by making it more fun and functional. With this, you can now control your PC with a pocket-sized wireless and backlit keyboard. It is very easy to use. No more installation of drivers. You only have to plug the USB nano dongle and you can play with it right away. The feature that attracted me to this is the additional hot keys and shortcuts for efficient usage. This can really add up to my productivity. Other features of this Lenovo Enhanced Multimedia Remote are: It has 2.4FHz radio frequency that gives about 30 feet range. This means you can control your PC even 30 feet away. It has up to 3 month battery life using two AA battery. It has black-light keyboard with on/off switch to save battery life. And this is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Window 7. I have Window 7 so I will be golden with this.
