Coat for Winter

Every morning when I dropped off our kindergartner to school the temperature is really dropping. As it is already fall, surely the weather is started to cool off as well. Long before we know it, it is already winter. This means more warm and thick clothing to wear. This Canada Goose Trillium Parka is really perfect for the winter. I will be out every morning to drive our kid to school and I need something like this to keep me warm.

I now started to take out our winter clothing from the box. I realized that I really do need to get some more warmer stuff. Not only for myself but for my kids as well. Hubby have his uniform, and they have thermal wear to wear underneath their ACU's. So he is good to go. What he needs though is a warm coat to wear when we go to church during Sundays. I saw this very nice coat at Dave's New York online and I really like it. This is perfect for him for the winter.

I love it when it's snowing, but I just don't like to wear a lot of clothes. So most of the time when we get a lot of snow, I will just be inside the house. If ever I have this very warm parka, I can already play outside with my kids and build a snowman.

Under the Weather

It started last week when our little girl have sniffles and then develop into coughing and fever. Good thing though it was not worst as I was able to give her children's Tylenol. Then on Wednesday after my workout I took a warm shower. My body then starts to ache and my throat was harsh. I took pain reliever and somehow I thought I will be okay. I still did my workout the next day, but on Friday I got so sick and it's like my chest was pushed hard to my back. My friend told me to just rest and skip the workout. Still I did the hip hop abs at night.

I guess the bug won't go away until everybody is feeling it. Now our DD1 complained of sore throat and a little headache. I gave her medicine and cooked soup. Good thing she is eating good and it helps her not to get more sick. She has a little fever but I hope it will not become worst. It's okay if I get sick as I can handle it. But with kids, it is just so pitiful looking at them not feeling good. I always get worried when they are sick. As long as they will eat good even though they are a little bit under the weather, then I am good.

Insanity Workout

{Photo not mine: Grabbed at beachbody.com}

I have a female friend that is in the military and said she's doing insanity workout while on her deployment overseas. She said that when gets home we will do it as it is really effective as long as you follow the workout routine. She got home early this month and true enough she lost a lot of weight. She slimmed down. On Monday last week we started the workout and it is really a smoker. I did the fit test first and I have to stop a lot of times to catch my breath.

On the program that they have is to do the fit test first to measure how many reps you get in every exercise. There's only 1 minute and some minutes to do per exercise but the intensity of it is really insane. It's fast and you have to move your whole body. You have to have water on the side as you will need it a lot. You also have to go on your pace if you are just starting. At first I thought I will really pass out.

This exercise is really hard even though you don't use any equipment. It only needs your determination, perseverance, endurance, and discipline to fulfill every exercise routine. The routines are packed with plyometric drills on a nonstop intervals as well as strength, power, resistance, and ab and core training moves. I believe that if you follow the moves properly and do it everyday for 60 days you will surely get a good result. So, today will be my second week. I am aiming to lose 10 pounds in 60 days. I think this is achievable as long as I do it diligently. There may be some setbacks, but I will do my best to get back on track.

If you are interested to get your gift items and not bring it home yet? Then a layaway is one best thing to. Kmart have a free layaway that you can take advantage of. This is really great as everyone will have the chance to win.

What I like when doing layaway at Kmart is that they have wide range of products included in layaway whereas Best Buy and other retailers don't have. Kmart don't have minimum items or transaction amount and others have a cap on it. If you want to compare layaway programs of Kmart ot other programs, check this grid below. Start putting your favorite product now on layaway so you will still have enough time to pay it in full. I am thinking of doing mine the soonest and would love to get this Craftsman 26'' Wide 4-Drawer Ball-Bearing Bottom Chest for my husband on Christmas.

Another Color Inspiration

Another color inspiration that is nice for living room or family room is the combination of shade of brown and turquoises/aquas shade. This room is the same layout on our loft and about the same size. This is the model unit's design and I kind of like the combination of color. They use some technique on painting the accent wall [center]. They said they put like a wallpaper and painted on top of it and the effect came out like a rubber texture to it. It is very nice and cool to the eyes. The room appears airy and light. What do you think of the color? Is it something you like on your wall?

Planting Herbs with Miracle-Gro®

This post brought to you by Scotts Miracle-Gro. All opinions are 100% mine.

It's been a while that I wanted to start potting some herbs. A frriend of mine already gave to me some of their plants as they are moving. But since fall is approaching then I am not sure how far we can go with our cold weather here, I plan of transferring some of the veggies and herbs in a pot. Fall gardening would really let you opt for potting some of your plants and vegetables especially those that needs to be indoor during extreme cold weather.

MG_Potting_Mix.jpg

I learned that to Find beauty in the Fall with your aromatic herbs garden can be happened using theMiracle-Gro® Potting Mix. This is ideal for potted or container plants and has rich, organic materials that helps improve drainage and air flow for moisture control. It feeds up to 6 months with Miracle-Gro Continuous Release Plant Food.  You can plant the herbs indoor and I saw on pinterest this vertical way of planting the herbs and you can have it stand in a shaded part of your house that faces south so it can come in contact direct to the sunlight.

I learned some good tips for growing herbs on the Miracle Gro site. "Since air and soil temperature can affect plant growth rates, keep your seedlings warm with a seedling heat mat, available at your garden center". And also, "If you're growing from seed, look for newer varieties that are dense and compact, since standard ones may not be satisfactory in the house. Popular herbs include basil, thyme, oregano, and rosemary. Ask at your garden center for recommendations"

Check also the Miracle-Gro Facebook page for more information about the products you can use for your garden as well as different ideas and tips in planting this fall season.

Brown and White with Hint of Blue

Decorating is one of my frustrations :-) But because of the many choices and beautiful things you can find in the store, it is just too hard to decide.  Anyways, the picture above is one of the model house's living area. Our family room is the same lay out with the picture sans the white built-in shelf. I love to have the shelf but when we got our house the builder can no longer add the shelf as it is already done. We were advised though to have it built by someone else.

The color scheme of this family room is brown and white and they have deep blue [looks like purple] accents with the throw pillows as well as the curtains. I like how it makes the room warm but the brown wall is too dark for my taste. We are currently looking for nice wall colors and this picture is something of an inspiration. Maybe when I apply it to our wall I make it a little lighter since we also have brown and espresso furniture.

How to Match a Bra with a Dress

Bra shopping is something every woman has to learn to do at some point in her life, but there are areas where it becomes trickier than the standard cup size, back size, pick a colour! One of those situations is when you need to match a specific dress with a comfortable and supportive bra that looks great and doesn’t ruin your outfit. There are lots of things you need to consider to make sure that the bra you choose is the absolute perfect fit, otherwise it could mess up the entire look that you were going for. Here are some top tips to make sure that doesn’t happen!

First off is to match the colour of the bra to what you’re going to be wearing. Most obviously this applies to black and white – a black bra under a white dress is a big no-no. But what about other colours and shades? Dark colours and shades of blue also come through very easily with white, and they will do the same with other light coloured dresses such as cotton yellow or pastel pink. Don’t wear a clashing bra just because it’s your favourite – find something just as comfortable that works with your colour scheme.

Next you need to consider the cut. Especially in the case of spring and summer dresses you will find that necklines and backs may be very low, so much so that a standard bra would be on show. You may instead want to opt for a plunge bra or a strapless bra, one that won’t let straps or bands show. Also be aware of dresses that have cut outs or sheer panels such as lace. A bra or any underwear showing through these gaps could be awkward. For a wedding dress it is also very important to find the right fit, but there are specific bridal lingerie for this.

One final consideration is texture and pattern. Bras that are lacy or have other three dimensional embellishments such as diamantes or bows could look bumpy under light or thin fabrics. Also may sure the seams of the bra don’t stand up too much as these will show through as well, although they may not under more substantial items of clothing.

Kang-A-bounce

This was taken on our Saturday fun at Wild Waves Theme Park. Part of all the things we do for our kids. She wanted to ride on this kang-a-bounce. This kangaroo ride was really fun. It bounces high and you will feel like you will be thrown out of the seat. I know there is a restrain but I can't help but hold DD1 in fear she might fall. She was telling me she will be okay and not to hold her. What can I do, it's a protective mother instinct doing so :-)

If you can see at the picture I am kind of biting my lip. I was like really? What did I put myself into?

Are You a Shoes-O-holic?

I think there are only few women that don't like shoes. In the fashion world women who loves shoes too much are called shoes-O-holic, shoebsessed, and shoenatic. I don't know who started to coin these terms but it's kinda funny to hear combining the words obsessed and fanatic to shoes.

When talking about vast collection of shoes, the former first lady of the Philippines, Cong. Imelda Marcos, will first come to mind. She is very well-known for her shoe collections. I admit I love shoes but I still can hold myself not to indulge too much. I will say I still have the reign on myself not to buy more shoes even if I am already itching to do so.

But temptation to buy is always present as I always receive email alerts from different department stores of their sales going on. Some friends also enticing me to check out some shoe stores for their sales which I can only say, "temptation stay away from me!" {lol} Just like now, I am seeing this tory burch shoes on sale at Jildor shoes online. Actually it's a wedge sandal that is really perfect for summer. I like it a lot and so wanting to have something like this.
What do you think of this wedge? I know it oozes with sophistication and surely whoever wears it can elongate more the legs. This is what I like in shoes as I am not a tall person. I may like it a lot but I don't want to give in to temptation right now. And I guess I am not a shoes-O-holic as I only own few footwear :-)

Few Floras Found at Point Defiance Zoo and Park

I don't know about you but when I see different floras in a park or gardens it will get my interest. I think because of my background in Biology and Botany that having to see and learn different origins of flowers and plants arouse my curiosity.

At the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is also a park with different species of flowers and plants. Some of the plants have labels, the name and its country of origin. For me it is very educational. I appreciate plants and flowers and having to learn where it came from is an added bonus.

I have here below some of the plants and shrubs that I get to snapped while we visited the place.

This is called hardy aloe - Aloe striatula that came from South Africa. I am not sure if this is the same as the aloe vera that is well-known to use for hair growth.

Next is called the pepper tree - Drimys lanceolata that originates from Australia. It has an interesting red stems.
The dappled willow has the scientific name of Salix integra. This came from Japan and it's Japanese name is Hakuro Nishiki.
The blue Mediterranean fan palm - Chaemerops humilis var. cerifera came from Northwest Africa. I learned that this is the hardiest of all palms and is deer-resistant.

And this wire-netting bush with zigzag branches that looks like a net covered with green leaves. This is a native from New Zealand. It's scientific name is Corokia cotoneaster.

How Much Does Your Wedding Costs?

Most girls, including myself, dreamed of having a nice wedding to someone I will spend the rest of my life with. When me and hubby wed, it was but a simple one. We do not have the lavish reception and I did not even wear a bridal gown. Our wedding rings are simple gold bands that we both treasured irregardless of its price.

But have you wondered how all these lavish and grand weddings came about? I found a very interesting site, Moissanite, that talks about brief history of weddings. It is very interesting to learn when the wedding band started to be worn by newly weds, when the white bridal gown started to become the trend in weddings, and many other stories that we just did not think about.

Another interesting fact I learned is about the costs of marriage in different cultures. What are the bride price and which countries are paying the highest bride price. Such a very interesting topic I should say and I was just amazed of the facts I learned about marriage through the ages.  To answer my question on how much your wedding costs? I would say ours was less than $500 included everything like the dress I wear and hubby's suit. I just want to be practical and don't want to be in debt just to have a grand wedding.

Check this picture below for some interesting facts about weddings.

Zoo Animals

Every time we visit a zoo I can't help but become a kid again too. I am still amazed that I am able to look at them for real that when I was a little kid I only see them in the books.

Our kids were also amazed, and they were both excited as we went around the zoo. Most of the wild animals you can find at the Point Defiance Zoo are those you can see in Asia as they have the Asian Forest Sanctuary. They have the elephant from Thailand, a Sumatran tiger, the white-cheeked Gibbon, the Anoa, and others. They also have the polar bear and other water and marine mammals.

In the aquarium, you can see different  fishes common here in the northwest as well as sharks. I think [not sure] this is a nurse shark that they have in the aquarium. Just like many other zoos, this is an educational place that everyone can learn about different species both in land and in water.

Aside from animals, there are different plants and flowers all around the zoo/park that came from different countries. It's a good thing that the management of this zoo and aquarium were able to incorporate the flora and fauna in one place. We will surely visit there again next summer.
